In his trip to the moon (Icaro)Menippus, the first Greek Astronaut, tries to see if the Colossus and the Pharos are visible from outer space (like the Great Wall of China). Ancient towers hide the symbols that will transport you to new experiences of sight and sounds. A division of Caltech, NASA’s JPL is the leading US center for the robotic exploration of the solar system. You will also find astronomy WebQuests here. Thursday's Classroom - The aim of Thursday's Classroom is to provide a lasting connection between NASA's latest research and the classroom environment.

Albert Einstein Even before Plato Greek philosophers tried to find the limitations of our knowledge. For example, in spite of some of the limitations of Egyptian mathematics, the Rhind papyrus announces itself as containing “Rules for enquiring into nature and for knowing all that exists, every mystery, every secret.”(Sarton 1952, 37) That is, numeracy was taken as a key to all knowledge. This talk will provide a fascinating look at these densely packed star groups—what they are, where they are, where they come from, and how they might relate to dark matter and black holes.

If it [the top of the reed] moves down 3 cubits, [the other end] moves away by 9 cubits. It takes a sharp eye and imaginative brain to be able to display it as he does, and we get to enjoy all his hard work. Throughout the world, native metallic copper was mined in this way from no later than 4000 B. He therefore made great use of old observations, comparing them to his own. This includes morphological, biochemical, genetic, and modeled systems to describe the relationship of animals to one another.

Plato’s goal seems to be to demonstrate that knowledge is nothing but remembering what we knew in a previous incarnation. We usually talk about X-rays in terms of their energy rather than wavelength. Fairbank, for example, argued that the Chinese political system was hostile to scientific progress. Information on the movement of Earth's tectonic plates, its gravity field, and its orientation in its orbit can all be accomplished with high accuracy via LR.

Sapir, Whorf’s teacher, articulated a form of linguistic determinism in his 1929 essay, “The Status of Linguistics as a Science ”: Human beings do not live in the objective world alone, nor alone in the world of social activity as ordinarily understood, but are very much at the mercy of the particular language which has become the medium of expression in their society. Pedagogically the program is cyclical: after an introductory survey the major provides courses focused on the primary divisions of the subject.

The observatory was designed to provide for the needs of the astronomers and included a library largely consisting of books on astronomy and mathematics. Thus, we are generally less certain about aspects of building done primarily in fibers and wood than we are about building in less perishable materials. The bases of these structures were huge—one constructed at Ur around 2000 B. The evidence for mathematics in China has a much different character. Planck's objective is to analyse, with the highest accuracy ever achieved, the remnants of the radiation that filled the Universe immediately after the Big Bang - this we observe today as the Cosmic Microwave Background.

There was no good reason known for the stars to shine, and to shine for so long, before Eddington (1926) calculated the balance between gravity holding stars together and nuclear energy tending to blow them apart. According to Doppler Effect the frequency of sound wave changes with motion, either of the source or of the observer. Include animals found in tide pools and explain how they adapt to their constantly changing environment. The planned requirements for a major in Physics include the core courses listed below plus all of the courses in one of the five concentrations.

There is evidence in the Harappan civilization that the curry powders, which continue to characterize Indian food, were already in use at the earliest sites (Mackay and Mackay 1976). Celestial globes recorded the distribution of celestial bodies (planets, moons, stars) in the night sky. In 1963, unaware of Gamow's work, Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson at the Bell Telephone Laboratories detected radiation of cosmic origin.
