In fact, the audit found that INAC has no idea how waste is disposed of in 80 reserve communities, a startling statistic that provides a glimpse into the breadth of challenges to overcome.9 Understanding the reserve system can be complicated. Within Inuit Nunangat, 65% of Inuit lived in homes where at least half of the meat and fish consumed was country food, and 59% of Inuit children ate wild meat at least 3 days per week. Aboriginal people accounted for 3.8% of the population enumerated in the 2006 Census, 3.3% in the 2001 Census and 2.8% in the 1996 Census.

However, the most spectacular of all marine hunts was the Nuu-chah-nulth's pursuit of the whale. Many women told us that they urgently needed safe housing. I live beside the largest reserve in BC and it is a disgrace. In 2006, there were 124,900 Aboriginal women and girls in Ontario. These lead to low self-esteem in the individual as First Nations culture and tradition are marginalized affecting one's sense of self-identity. Finalist for the 2013 Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Teaching, presented in partnership with TD Bank.

[287] During the 20th century Canadians with African, Caribbean and Asian nationalities have added to the Canadian identity and its culture. [288] Canadian humour is an integral part of the Canadian Identity and is reflected in its folklore, literature, music, art and media. Fertility rates remain higher for Aboriginal women compared to non-Aboriginal women. The shocking failure of BC's Heritage Conservation Act to protect indigenous sites has resulted their looting and desecration.
