The most important factor when judging a louche is the final result’s attractiveness and opalescence. Carafes were commonly used to add water to absinthe in bistrots. Customers would have one at their table, pouring as needed. Pitchers, usually made of stoneware, often featured a small hole in the spout for pouring a controlled stream of water. Such pitchers were made exclusively for absinthe preparation, are quite rare, and are highly prized. This rare carafe is etched with the coat of arms of the absinthe distillery Ph.
This lovely ouraline carafe is the perfect way to add water to an ouraline glass! It features subtle spiraling facets that gently corkscrew up the sides. Under black light, the carafe becomes alive in a fluorescent emerald green. Quite rare and in flawless condition, this glazed stoneware water pitcher sports the head of a lion. Specifically made for use with absinthe, its spout features a small opening that creates a fine stream of water. This style of pitcher is more commonly topped with the head of a dog.
